i never understood this. when they say she has a 9 to 1 chance of winning, does that mean she has a 90% chance of winning? somebody please explain!

I think what 9-1 means is that if you bet $1 today on Kellie P. in Vegas, and she wins, you would get $9 back.

Vegas oddsmakers pay more on people they don't think have a good chance to win, because that encourages people to take a chance on them.

They make money by setting the odds so people put money on many different contestants. The more people that bet on contestants that don't win, the more money they make.

Anyway, 9-1 at this point isn't too bad.

I think it's interesting to see the odds. But I've known a few people that ruined their lives by gambling, so I don't encourage anyone to actually bet for real.

Remember, the odds-making process is designed so that the the bookies always make money, and that means a lot of people like us have to lose money.

Okay, I can't really explain it myself, it's like the ones whose chances are better have numbers with a lower value like 2 to 1 is better than 9 to 1.
It means that they have a 1 in 6 chance of winning.
Let's say it like this, you have a bowl !
You put three red stones and one white stone in the bowl !
You pull out one stone
The chances of you pulling out the white one are 1 in 4.
'Cos there are 4 stones and only one white one !
