Rascal Flatts cowboy up at Pizza Hut Park

Saturday night was time to get my country on with Rascal Flatts out at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco. The mega country group is celebrating ten years together this year and they brought a bunch of friends with them to the party.

Chris Young kicked things off and though some of the crowd obviously didn’t know him that well he won them over and I have little doubt that several CDs were purchased soon after the show. The openers just got bigger from there with Kellie Pickler – who got her start with American Idol – took the stage to an excited and growing crowd and a video introduction by Dolly Parton. I have to say Pickler sounds just like Parton too during her cover of ‘Jolene’. Close your eyes and you’ll think it’s Dolly for sure.

There was one final opener and no doubt that many of the crowd were as excited to see him as they were to see Rascal Flatts. John Rich – of Big and Rich fame – hit the stage and the crowd went wild. With his flashy suit and electric guitar John Rich brings enough rock to his country to make me happy. But that wasn’t all he brought. He too had brought a few friends to help him out. Like the unmistakable Cowboy Troy who came out to join him on a duet of ‘I Play Chicken With the Train’ that had the crowd jumping – and the tiny but amazing Two Foot Fred who came out to do a little dance for the ladies. By the time John Rich left the stage the crowd was more than ready for the band they’d all come to see and Pizza Hut Park was packed.

Country music doesn’t mean you can’t have some fireworks and Rascal Flatts certainly did. With a giant guitar shooting off fireworks to the shot of sparks and flame that got their show started they had the crowd on their feet and signing along. Many on the field of Pizza Hut Park surrounded the catwalk that was attached to the stage and the guys from Rascal Flatts spent a good deal of time out there interacting with the crowd, shaking hands and letting the crowd help them sing. To celebrate their 10 year anniversary they took us on a journey through their career with songs like ‘Prayin’ For Daylight’, ‘Mayberry’ and ‘Bob That Head’ and of course wrapping things up with stuff from their newest single ‘Why Wait’. Oh and did I mention the confetti? This show had everything and only left the crowd wanting more.

and there's one photo of Kellie at the link.
